Sportsmanship-On the Sporting Field and in Everyday Life

Sportsmanship is a hope that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for it's own sake. Sportsmanship is where the players must show true fairness and overall respect to not only your opponents but to your teammates, coaches, and referees as well.

One time I demonstrated good sportsmanship this year was when I was playing in my soccer/football league and noticed someone on the opposing team do a great play, and after the game when we were shaking hands with the opposing team, I saw the guy who did the great play, and I complimented him. He smiled, and I could see that my compliment delighted him. This shows that on that day, I showed respect to the other team's player even though I didn't know him.

You can demonstrate sportsmanship in PE or on the sporting field by...

  • Respecting your opponents, teammates, coaches, and referees
  • Obeying the game rules
  • Not being a sore loser
You can demonstrate sportsmanship in everyday life by...
  • Showing respect to people who you might not even know
  • Obeying the rules and laws of your community

One way of demonstrating sportsmanship that I haven't yet demonstrated is when my team loses, I still express happiness to my teammates and the opposition. I'm going to try to demonstrate this as much as I can from now on... no matter what!
